Foaming Hand Soap // DIY

We did a little family DIY this week.
We made foaming handsoap from scratch.

I love that it's free of toxins, leaves your hands moisturized, and smells amazing!
It was fun to teach my 4 year old how to make soap, and also show him the math that making things with love and care can often be less expensive (and more fun) than buying them from the store.

There are tons of recipes on the internet (Pinterest especially), but here is the winning recipe that we used. We made three different batches, one using Thieves, one using Melaleuca & Peppermint, and one using Peace & Calming.

DIY Foaming Handsoap
8.5 oz purified or distilled water
4 Tblsp Castile Soap
2 Tbsp jojoba oil

A few things to note: Start by adding the water first. The castile soap will bubble up if you add it first and pour the water over it.
Also, fractionated coconut oil would be a great substitution for jojoba oil. It's a heavier oil so you can use less, and it's significantly less expensive than jojoba. Also, if you're interested in keeping the cost down, I would recommend using a less expensive oil (like Lemon, Lavender or Peppermint for example).

Have fun experimenting!
